Diagrams Overview
Diagrams are visual representations of a subset of your architecture model. Unlike traditional diagramming tools, DesignFoundry diagrams are backed by real objects and relationships from the inventory — changes to the inventory automatically reflect in all diagrams that reference those objects.
Diagram Types
DesignFoundry supports multiple notation types:
| Notation | Description |
|---|---|
| ArchiMate | Standard EA notation with Business, Application, and Technology layers |
| BPMN | Business Process Model and Notation for process flows |
| Generic | Freeform boxes and connectors for any-purpose diagrams |
Key Principles
- Single source of truth — Objects live in the inventory, not in diagrams
- One model, many views — The same object can appear in multiple diagrams
- Live data — Diagram reflects current state of the inventory
- Layered — Diagram objects are placed on named layers for organization
