Creating Diagrams
New Diagram Wizard
- Go to Diagrams in the sidebar
- Click New Diagram (top-right)
- The diagram creation dialog opens:
Step 1 — Choose a Type
Select a notation type (ArchiMate, BPMN, or Generic).
Step 2 — Name and Describe
Give the diagram a descriptive name. The description is optional but helps other team members understand its purpose.
Step 3 — Choose a Template (Optional)
Starting from a template pre-populates the canvas with a common layout. You can skip this for a blank canvas.
Step 4 — Select the Viewpoint
ArchiMate diagrams offer named viewpoints (Stakeholder, Application, Technology, etc.) that filter which element types are available.
Click Create to finish.
From the Inventory
You can also create a diagram directly from the Inventory:
- Select one or more objects in the Inventory
- Click Add to Diagram → New Diagram
- The selected objects are automatically placed on the new canvas
Diagram Properties
After creation, set additional properties via the Diagram Settings panel (gear icon):
- Name and description
- Type and viewpoint
- Canvas background color
- Default zoom level
